Students wishing to join their school debating team or compete in state-wide debating tournaments may have found that it takes more than just raw talent to rise to the next level.
Students may have tried other debating tutoring colleges, only to find that they do not provide the in-depth practical training required to help them perform at the top-level is lacking.
At Debate Club, we vet the past debating experiences of students wishing to join, and only those who are at a proficient skill level are admitted to our advanced debating classes.
Furthermore, given the already proficient skill level of our students in our advanced debating classes, the feedback they receive are focused more towards high-level performance and competition debating, than some of the more “foundations-and-basics” feedback students in our regular debating classes would receive.
Given the nature of debating, students necessarily have to have “training partners” to test their debating skills against in order to grow and improve. At the advanced level, students only really improve when their debating partners are similar in experience and skill level. Too much of a gap in either direction is not conducive to improvement for either student.
We provide our students performing at the highest level with quality, personalised, crtiical, and constructive feedback, so they have the tools and skills to go to the top.
Each student is given an individual summary report card at the end of each term that identifies their strengths, weaknesses, and opportunity for growth.
Our coaches are past and present debaters who have gone through the very same journey our students are undergoing. This lived experience enables the best coaching for our students.
Students are actively encouraged to participate in voicing their opinions and arguments in a fostering classroom environment of mutual respect and friendly rivalry.
Our small class sizes allow teachers to focus on each and every student on an individual level. This also allows students to easily and readily seek help from their teachers without fear of embarrassment or delay.

Teachers are experienced in knowledgeable in the English language, but lack the practical experience in debating, especially performing at the highest levels.
All teachers are current or past debating champions who have performed at the state, national, or international level. Many teachers are incumbent in fields that require high-level critical thinking such as law and medicine.
Classes are delivered like lectures with information conveyed from the mouth of the teacher to the ear of the student, with little to no open discussion.
Classrooms are run using the Socratic method in which students and teachers engage in cooperative argumentative dialogue that stimulates deep critical thinking.
Admits any student, without qualifying whether they’re a right fit for advanced debating coaching. This lowers the overall quality of the classroom environment, especially for those students who wish to compete in state and national tournaments.
Students’ debating experience, skills, and passion are vetted before being admitted. As such, students in advanced debating foster a class environment of shared growth and respect for each other.

Our Advanced Debating classes are specifically designed to prepare students to compete in state, national, and international debating competitions. Whilst the class structure follows that of the Regular Debating classes, the focus is on tournament performance and mindset required to excel and win these events.
Competing at tournaments brings the top debating students from across the state and country. Our Advanced Debating classes simulate the pressure students face in tournaments in a safe, yet challenging classroom environment.

Students are expected to have represented their school in debating in order to be considered. This is to ensure each student can practise with debating partners performing at competition level like everyone else.
In rare cases, students who show promise through exceptional merit in other fields may be admitted directly into the Advanced Debating coaching class without prior debating experience.
Each Advanced Debating class term lasts for 8 weeks, the same as a school term.
Students in remote locations will find it hard to attend one of our Advanced Debating coaching locations in person.
We have online classes that follow the same class structure and format as the in-person classes to accomodate such students.
